Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When will I take my first-year English course?
A: Roughly one-third of the university's first-year class enrolls in English each quarter. English classes are small (capped at 24), and to ensure quality instruction, different majors take the course at different times during the academic year. First-year students in the KSA enroll in English in winter quarter, except for Architecture Scholars participants who take a clustered section of English in spring quarter.

Q: When will I take my first-year studio course?
A: Honors and Scholars students will enroll in studio (Architecture 202 or Landscape Architecture 151) during winter quarter. Most other first-year students will take studio in spring quarter.

Q: I took a college-level course in high school. Will I receive credit for this?
A: If you completed college-level course in high school, it is your responsibility to submit official transcripts to Ohio State in order to receive credit. You must request the institution where courses were taken to send your official transcript directly to Ohio State at:

The Ohio State University
Undergraduate Admissions
Enarson Hall
154 W. 12th Avenue
Columbus OH 43210-1390

Ohio State's Transfer Credit Center will evaluate the credit and apply it to your university record. You will receive a Transfer Credit Report to inform you of the results. Some transfer credits (especially math) may require additional evaluation. This process is explained on your Transfer Credit Report. Credits will most likely be posted to your autumn quarter record.

Q: How much credit will I earn for IB or AP exams?
A: Credits are determined based on your score in a given subject/course. For instance, a score of 3, 4 or 5 on the AP Calculus AB exam will result in 10 credit hours earned toward Math 150 and 151. Download a full list of IB and AP credits. AP scores must be sent to Ohio State directly from the testing agency. Earned credit will post to your record as EM credit, which stands for credit earned by examination. These credits count toward your total earned hours at Ohio State.
